The Holy Spirit is on the earth

"But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all truth, fo He will not speak on his own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak, and He will disclose to you, what is to come" (John 16:13).

The Holy Spirit is among us now. Acts tells us how the Holy Spirit came to us. Apostles and disciples had gathered together to pray in the upper hall on the day of Pentecost. Before this, after his resurrection, Jesus had surprised the disciples by appearing among them behind the locked doors. On the day of Pentecost the Holy Spirit surprised them totally: " And suddenly, there came from heaven a noise like a violent, rushing wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. And there appeared to them tongues as of fire distributing themselves, and they rested on each one of them" (Acts 2:2-3) .

The Holy Spirit descended on Jesus in the shape of a dove when he was stepping out of Jordan river. Now He arrived like a rushing wind. He was like a fire that separated on smaller flames on each of those who were in the room. When Jesus was still wandering on this earth, he said: "I have come to cast fire upon the earth " (Luke 12:49). On the day of Pentecost this fire was kindled and is still burning among us. Only when this fire is burning in us we can be the light of the world. Jesus said: "You are the light of the world" (Matthew 5:14). Holy Spirit is send for YOU. Holy Spirit wants to guide, defense and advice you. Bible says, that the Holy Spirit will guide those who walk in prayer.

"Let me guide"

Once, when I was walking in the center Kouvola, a town in eastern Finland, Holy Spirit surprised me. In front of a travel agency He said: "Matti, I want you to go to that travel agency and order a fly ticket to Ghana, West Africa. I want you to join the crusade of Reinhard Bonnke, and show you something there!" Still walking I put my hands to my empty pockets and whispered: "Lord, I want to obey you, but I don't have any money." Somebody nearby might have looked me and laughed to me as I was turning my pockets upside down. But I was so excited, that I didn't care anyone around me. "I will take care of everything, when you just let me guide you," Spirit spoke to me.

Earlier the Lord had ordered me to follow up what Bonnke was doing. That's why I also got the magazine of his mission organization - Christ for all Nations. From one of these magazines I had read about his crusade in Ghana. As I was praying for his work regularly, I knew well the exact dates of the crusade. But I had never, ever, not even in my wildest imagination, been thinking to be there. But the presence of the Holy Spirit was so real that I didn't hesitate longer. I went in to the travel agency and booked a return ticket from Helsinki to Accra.

When I was coming out from the agency, devil tried to spoil everything, of course. The first sentence he said, was: "Who do you think you are?" Then that old liar continued: "And where do you think you will get so much money? You have not been invited there. Think how much money will be lost! You are nothing but an adventurer! What if you now went in and canceled the whole thing , before it will cause chaos in your life!" Devil wanted to destroy the plan of God with countless blaimings. Now when I am writing this, I have been working fulltime over 20 years for the Lord. I have never had constant salary, but I have had a chance to do the work trusting God's care in my life. I really didn't have a clue, where I would get the money from. But I decided to trust God.

At the same time one sister from an other town, and totally unknown for me, was praying the Lord: "Lord, I have some money, and I would like to give something for you. Please, show me to whom to give it." A couple of days later she was visiting at my home town at one couple, who were believers. When this couple were telling about me the Holy Spirit assured Ritva: "Here is the target you asked for your money!". This couple didn't know anything about my trip. I hadn't told anyone. Some days before my trip I had all the money I needed.

My fly route was Helsinki-Moscow-Accra. I had a ticket to tourist class, but when I was changing the airplane in Moscow, the kind stewardesses ordered me to sit in the first class. The tourist class was full of other passengers. The only person besides me In the first class was diplomat of Ghana. The journey was long and there was a plenty of time. As there were just two of us, it was natural to discuss. I had a wonderful chance to bear witness.

This was my first trip to unknown Africa. There are two million inhabitants in Accra, so it was a quite a big city. I didn't know where the meetings would take place, and where I would stay overnight. Nobody knew that I would come. I prayed for the Lord: "Lord I know three persons by their faces, from the organization of Reinhed Bonnke. Please, send some of them to the airport." I was excited to see, whom Lord would send. When I came to the airport, there really was Mr. Kleefeld, a German missionary and the head master of their local West African organization. I went to him straight away and introduced myself. I was wished welcome warmly. This friendly brother took me by his car to a good place, where I could stay with some preachers from the U.S. and we have very good fellowship.

In the first meeting there came over 60.000 people. I had never before seen so many people together in a spiritual meeting. While I watching all these people there, I felt how the Holy Spirit came upon me. I felt like I was burning all over. A countless amount of people gave there hearts for the Lord. Sick people were healed in front of my eyes. One evening Bonnke was praying for the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. I saw and felt the same what happened in the day of Pentecost: there came a rushing wind from the heaven. It came so strongly, that even my tie and my jacket were flattering. Tens of thousands of people gave witness how they had spoken in new tongues first time in their lives.

God really wanted to show me something marvelous, and devil had tried everything to hinder the guidance of the Holy Ghost. That journey changed my life in a remarkable way. God had shown his greatness to a small human being.

The Guidance of the Holy Spirit

I could tell you many similar examples of my life. Usually when I have told these stories, people have often asked me, how does God guide us. I believe that every believer wants the guidance of God to his life. I have always the same simple answer, which I have found from the word of God: "I will lead them, when they wander in prayer" (Jeremiah 31:9, Finnish translation). "He leads the humble in justice. And He teaches the humble His way," (Psalm 25:9).

Prayer and being humble are the two main points for me when asking the guidance of His Spirit. Repair your prayer life. In the spiritual life prayer is like breathing. Jesus gave us clear orders: "Go to your room and shut the door." Prayer moments alone at home and together with those family members, who are believers are essential for the guidance of the Holy Spirit. So are the common prayer meetings of your own congregation. Already the Christians of the first congregation gathered to pray together. Prayer meetings of the local congregation are important meetings.

Another basic of great importance is humbleness. God is against the proud one, to for humble he gives his grace. If you want the Spirit of God to guide you, you should humbly obey His will and His advice. The guidance of God's Spirit is a very simple thing and available for all of us. It is significant, what kind of prayer life we have. God wants you to have time for him every day. Not only when you are driving home from your business, and when you must concern in driving the vehicle, but at your home in your room. My dear reader, I am sure, that the loving Holy Spirit of God wants to say to you too: "Let me guide you!" The more you share time with him in prayer, the clearer his guidance will be in your life.
